Keeping Safe in Charlestown

Published: 23 July 2020

The parish council has been working closely with Cornwall Council and Cormac to draw up measures to keep our residents and visitors safe in Charlestown during this difficult time - it is important that everyone follows the message to social distance.  Measures taken will include making the pavement one way from Church Road to the roundabout adjacent to the car park; implementing a temporary 20 MPH speed limit on this stretch of road; temporary parking restrictions and appropriate signage.

Today arrows were painted on the pavements and pedestrians are asked to walk on the Regatta field side of the road when walking down to the harbour and on the opposite side of the road when walking uphill towards Penrice School.  Cormac will be installing temporary signs in the next few days to make people aware of the system.

The parish council is very conscious of the special nature of Charlestown and ordinarily would not wish to have a mass of signs, but the safety of everyone is paramount at this time.
